One clarification is the water drain hose on the RH side of the tank doesn't go to the bottom of the fuel tank protector. The hose that's connected to that is from the bottom of the cannister and if it gets plugged and/or melted from the exhaust, the tank will not vent properly. #38. DIRTLER and windblown101 like this.
This vent line has a check-valve as well to ensure that air can enter the tank as needed but fuel vapor cannot escape the tank. So this "vapor lock" as we call it happens when the check-valve malfunctions or the vent passages inside the gas cap get clogged up and air cannot enter the tank to equalize the pressure.
